COLES LITTLE ATHLETICS AUSTRALIA NATIONAL CAMP 2024
The 2024 Coles Little Athletics National Camp is being held at the Gold Coast Performance Centre, Runaway Bay on the Gold Coast from Saturday 24 to Tuesday 27 August, 2024.
Based on individual performances at the recent 2024 Coles Australian Little Athletics Championships and State events, 78 top-performing Little Athletics athletes, including Multi-Class athletes born in 2010 from across Australia have been invited to compete.
The camp is designed to offer each athlete an opportunity to improve themselves on the track, preparation, in recovery, psychology and a better understanding of the journey and process that is required to assist with their own development, in the high-performance pathway.
There will be current and former Australian International athletes coaching and presenting, as well as sharing their own experiences, and their journey from Juniors to International representation.
Athletes partaking in this camp will have their sights on Brisbane 2032, with many likely to be Australian Olympic athletes competing in 2032 Olympics and the 2024 Coles Little Athletics National Camp is an essential part of the future of the sport.
Olympic Gold Medalist Glynis Nunn OAM who is the driving force behind the camp since it began 12 years ago says “I am always very pleased to be able to contribute to the development of up and coming Little Athletes and look forward to meeting them at the camp. Nothing gives me more pleasure than to see Little Athletes performing at the best and enjoying themselves at the same time.”
Coaches at the Camp imparting their knowledge and experience include:
Matt Horsnell - Matt is an accomplished jumps coach across all disciplines and is the coach of high jumper Olympian Nicola Olyslagers (McDermott) who won silver at both the Paris and Tokyo Olympics, gold at the World Indoor Championships and bronze at the World Championships and holds the national record. Matt has coached jumpers at all levels of competition and is extremely keen to help any athlete achieve their dreams.
Dani Stevens - In 2009 Dani became the youngest ever female World Champion in the Discus. She is still the current National and Oceanian record holder. Dani won Discus gold and Shot Put bronze medals at the 2005 World Youth Championships and then went on to win the bronze medal in the Discus at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne at the age of seventeen. Dani reached the final of the 2008 Beijing Olympics then went on the following year to win the gold medal at the 2009 World Championships. Dani won gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and went on to the 2016 Olympics, finishing 4th and in the following year she threw a new pb to win silver at the London World Championships. At the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, she won gold.
Glynis Nunn OAM – Glynis is probably best known for her performance at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics where she won gold in the Heptathlon. She is also a Commonwealth Games gold medallist and finalist in both Olympics and Commonwealth Games in the 100m hurdles and Long Jump. Glynis is now a level five coach and is coaching athletes to Youth, Junior, Commonwealth and Olympic Games levels. Glynis is in the Coles Little Athletics Australia Hall of Fame.
CEO of Coles Little Athletics Australia, Myles Foreman says, “The Coles Little Athletics National Camp is designed to help our next generation of athletes get the extra training and mentoring they need to take them to the next level in their chosen event. With the support of some of Australia’s leading coaches and presenters, our Little Athletes will leave the camp ready to set a new personal best.”
Athletes will participate in training sessions, workshops, recovery sessions, presentations, and social activities onsite.
