Aces for Bushfire Relief: Tennis fans pledge per ace through online fundraising tool, Enablr
Off the back of Nick Kyrgios’ pledge to donate $200 per ace to those affected by bushfires over the summer tennis season, Enablr, a registered not for profit organisation is offering an online fundraising tool to Australian charities, to facilitate Tennis Australia’s Aces for Bushfire Relief initiative.
The online platform allows fans to pledge a donation per ace throughout Australian Open 2020. Pledges can be made for any tennis star from across the globe, with names such as Roger Federer, Ashleigh Barty, Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams set to ring in the donations at the AO this year.
“The more exposure it gets I think we have the potential to do something pretty special there,” Kyrgios told media ahead of the inaugural ATP Cup.
The initiative gives fans the opportunity to support their favourites, while pitching in to aid Australia’s bushfire relief.
“This year throughout the Australian Open, Enablr gives fans the thrill of supporting their tennis idols whilst also caring for those affected by the bushfires. With every ace served, our ‘enablrs’ are helping facilitate the incredible work being carried out by the Australian Red Cross. Enablr does not charge any commission on donations received,” says Christopher Mulcahy, Founder & CEO of Enablr.
Donors can pledge as little or as much as they like, and those that wish to pledge per ace hit by their favourite top player can cap the number of aces to ensure there is a limit to the overall donation.
Fans are already showing their support and turning aces into donations. The players with the most pledges as of 22 January are Roger Federer with 140 pledges for a cumulative $611.35 per ace, Nick Kyrgios with 79 pledges for a cumulative $362.00 per ace, Rafael Nadal with 69 pledges for a cumulative $236.50 per ace, and Ashleigh Barty with 35 pledges for a cumulative $153.00 per ace.
“We’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity of the global tennis community, and the way players, officials, fans and other tennis organisations have united to raise money for those affected by the devastating bushfires,” said Craig Tilley, Australian Open Tournament Director.
“We’re grateful for the terrific response but hope this is just the beginning, as we encourage everyone involved in our event to give generously.”
With over 6,000 aces already served, the donations pledged by fans through Enablr will contribute significantly to Tennis Australia’s bushfire relief fundraising initiatives, which have raised over $5.2 million already.
