PENNY FOR POUND OPENS NEW RICHMOND LOCATION

Much loved Melbourne bakery Penny for Pound has returned home to Richmond with a brand-new store front and an expanded offering of freshly baked sweet and savoury goods. Open now on the bustling strip of Bridge Rd, Penny for Pound Richmond is set to become a destination for lovers of all things bread and pastry, serving up an array of signature treats, freshly roasted coffee and even bake at home croissants.

Just a stone’s throw away from their original hole in the wall Richmond location, Penny for Pound’s new outpost is bigger and better, offering a larger menu for dine-in or takeaway including toasted sandwiches, salads, hot pies and sausage rolls to freshly baked croissants, cruffins and glistening fruit Danishes. Lovers of classic flavours can treat themselves to a plain buttery croissant or a salted choc chip cookie, while others can try a twist on the staple fillings with options such as confit garlic and cream cheese scroll, twice baked red velvet croissant, pecan and marzipan glazed croissant or a passionfruit & cacao nib doughnut.

From humble beginnings in 2016 as a wholesale bakery working out the back of a friend’s cafe, Penny for Pound has since rapidly expanded, moving beyond the tiny space into three cafes in Richmond, Camberwell and an 800sqm flagship location in Moorabbin, home to a state-of-the-art commercial baking kitchen. From here, they make and supply bread and pastries to some of Melbourne’s best cafes, including Axil Coffee Roasters, New Order, Maverick, Black Flat, Greta, Veneziano Coffee Roasters and many more.

Founders Matilda Smith and Ben Wilson, a trained pastry chef and restaurant manager respectively, have quickly become known for making the freshest pastries in Melbourne, all hand made with love and baked fresh every day. Priding themselves on creating an experience in which their customers feel immersed in the baking process, floor to ceiling viewing windows around the croissant rolling room at the Moorabbin store allows customers a sneak peek.

“We are really excited about our new Richmond store, it’s like coming home. Penny for Pound was born with the ethos of supplying people around Melbourne with the best tasting, freshest baked goods, and we are thrilled to be able to continue to do so,” says Matilda Smith, Penny for Pound co-founder.

Matilda and Ben are also the owners and masterminds behind Holla Gelato, a gelato store offering a multitude of flavor combinations from Fairy Bread to Biscoff to Coffee Pecan Crunch. Holla Gelato is conveniently located next door to Penny for Pound’s Moorabbin store.

Penny for Pound is now back where it all began on Bridge Road, Richmond.
