EXPERIENCE THE POWER OF THE ELEMENTS THIS WINTER AT MOAMA LIGHTS
Echuca Moama’s Horseshoe Lagoon will be transformed into a spectacular exhibition of light and sound from 30 June to 23 July as Moama Lights takes visitors on a powerful journey through the elements of air, fire, water and earth.
Created and produced by world-class design studio Mandylights, Moama Lights 2023 will be split into seven zones as it guides event-goers through an interactive story which will showcase the wonders of the earth and the beauty of the bush.
Transported from the get-go, guests will first cross the bridge into a theatrical sea of blue as they enter into the first of the elements, air, and are welcomed to Yorta Yorta land with an acknowledgement of country and narration of ‘Spiritual Song of the Aborigine’ by Hyllus Noel Maris.
Visitors will then be taken to a place beneath the southern skies, where a striking laser and light show will produce a winters night sky imitating Aurora Australis. Transitioning from air to land, the trail will lead guests to fire’s warming embrace with several bonfire light structures scattered throughout the scrub inviting sightseers to sit and stay as they listen to local bush stories, tales of droving and legends of the past.
Lightning and rain will replace the warmth of the campfire as visitors head into the eye of the storm, brought to life by a soundscape of thunder, wind and rain. As always, the storm will subside, and the serene beauty of the Murray River will be revealed, emphasised through cascading light displays and enchanting soundtracks that reflect the community spirit of the region.
The grand finale will showcase earth’s landscape as it gives rise to flourishing fauna and flora. With native animals designed and created by local school students, as well as huge inflatable flowers, the finale will immerse visitors in the magnificent beauty of the bush one last time.
In addition to the incredible state-of-the-art installations, this year’s event will also feature an outdoor ice-skating rink, the American Hotel beer garden, food trucks and kids’ entertainment. Those keen to get their skates on can do so from Saturday 24th June in Kerrabee Soundshell, just a stone’s throw away from Moama Lights, and will be able to pre-book online.
With over 25,000 visitors in attendance last year, locals and travellers alike are encouraged to purchase tickets now to avoid missing out.
“We’re incredibly excited to reveal this year’s creative concept developed in partnership with Mandylights, and look forward to visitors experiencing the power of the earth’s elements. Through showcasing the elements, Moama Lights will celebrate the beauty and history of Echuca Moama using an innovative mix of lights, lasers, graphic projections and physical installations,” said Murray River Council mayor Chris Bilkey.
Moama Lights will run over four weekends from Thursday to Sunday, with tickets sold in sessions.
Electricity network provider, Transgrid has thrown its support behind Moama Lights for a second year as the major Platinum Partner.
Sponsors Moama Bowling Club, Rich River Golf Club, The America Hotel, Echuca Moama Accommodation Association and The Border Inn are also backing the event.
