Australian Sports Foundation: Active Kids Grants

THE BRIEF

Progressive PR & Communications (PPR&C) were engaged by the Australian Sports Foundation (ASF) to deliver a campaign around Australia announcing their new Active Kids Grants which will help eligible clubs acquire equipment, kit and uniforms for junior members.

The Active Kids Grants have been established with the aim of providing every child with the active childhood they deserve, by supplying them with the equipment they need to participate in sporting activities.

The Grants are in response to the ASF’s recent survey which found Australia’s 70,000 community clubs need $1.2 billion in funding to survive the crippling effects of the COVID-19 crisis.

OUR RESPONSE

PPR&C proposed a compelling Australia wide campaign that focused on achieving extensive regional and rural as well as capital city media coverage.

Case studies of clubs who had received a grant in previous rounds were used to highlight the benefits of the funding and how it enables clubs and children to play the sport they love.

RESULTS

The case studies were successful and well received by media as they enabled media to humanise the issue and show a positive outcome to the problem presented by the ASF’s recent survey.

Coverage ranged from local media where the case study clubs were located to metro, statewide and national media stories.

The highlights in terms of coverage were Sky News TV, extensive metropolitan and regional ABC radio interviews and multiple grabs for news bulletins around Australia.
