Ice Hockey All Star Weekend – the fans have spoken

-

The best of Australia’s national league ice hockey players will battle it out on the ice at O’Brien Group Arena in the annual Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) All Star Weekend on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 June.

Players are voted into the All Star Weekend by the fans and the top 34 players are split into two teams.  Team Captains for this year are Jamie Bourke from the Melbourne Mustangs (Team Bourke) and Liam Webster from the Melbourne Ice (Team Webster).

Over two action packed days AIHL All Stars selected from all eight teams in the national league go head-to-head on Saturday 3 June in a series of individual skill competitions for up to $20,000 in cash prizes with the weekend culminating in an All Star Game on Sunday 4 June.

Each of the 34 All Stars will compete in at least two of the six skills contests to decide who really is the All Star:

  • APA Group Breakaway Challenge
  • Air Canada Fastest Skater
  • Ryzer Elimination Shootout
  • Skaters Network Hardest Shot
  • Shooting Accuracy
  • Rifle Media Stickhandling Competition

On Sunday these skills are put to the test with players from around the AIHL facing off in either Team Bourke or Team Webster.  Team mates take on team mates to see who will take home the Mick McCormick Cup for 2017.

Expect fast, fierce and full on action!

And for the fans, there’s the All Star Dinner on Saturday after the skills competition where they can mingle with their favourite players and the AIHL’s best.

There’s also the opportunity for up and coming players between the ages of 10-16 to secure a spot at the Bauer Own the Moment Junior Camp presented by Skaters Network.

The camp features on and off ice instruction, skills development and guest presentations.  Participants will receive a weekend pass to the AIHL All-Star Weekend, a jersey, hat, water bottle, puck, and certificate of completion – but best of all – the chance to train with AIHL All-Stars!
